What is autonomy and how does it apply in healthcare administration?

Autonomy relates to the freedom to follow or act according to one’s own will. It applies in healthcare, for example, if two doctors don’t see eye to eye on any specific similar issues, they could recommend their patients do different things to treat the thing that they are being seen for. It gives the doctors the right to recommend to the patient and suggest what they think is the best option.

What is HIPAA and why was it enacted?

HIPAA is the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. This was enacted to protect health insurance coverage for workers and families if they lost a job, or are moving jobs and mostly to protect health data integrity and confidentiality.

What is the purpose of a PHR?

PHR stands for personal health record. It makes it able to assist consumers in their personal wellness efforts and contribute to increased personal responsibility for health care decision making.

What is General Semantics?

General Semantics are a system of linguistic philosophy developed by Alfred Korzybski (1879–1950), which explores the arbitrary nature of words and symbols and attempts to refine ways of using language.

What is the process of abstraction or the abstraction process?

Abstraction is talked about along with General Semantics.

Event: something occurs

Object: We can sense what happens

Description: Recognize what happens

Inferences: Create meanings for what happens.

In DSRP — what is a Perspective? Use the abstraction process to provide your example.

Perspective is basically just a point of view and things can be seen from different points of view.

One example of this is something as simple as looking into the clouds to see if the clouds form something that we recognize. Someone might see a dog in the clouds, and another person could see something completely different and they could see that differently based on how they are feeling or what mood they are in.

Using the process of abstraction within General Semantics — provide an example from the perspective of a healthcare administrator.

New Doctor or manager running the department

Know that certain changes could be coming

Feeling nervous or maybe even excited

Need to perform at a high level to showcase skills

  1. Sam,
I like how your map feels interactive, but is easier to view because it is concise in the way you visually presented the information!
