I have been trying to for the past hour to drag a Essay Planning template into my work space and edit it, to no avail. I can drag the template but it won’t let me edit the boxes to create my Essay Map in Rationale. Does anyone happen to know what I am doing wrong?

I had the exact same problem. Found out that we are limited to only five boxes unless you pay to upgrade your account. You can go in and drag boxes from the sidebar and edit those as long as you only use up to five. There should be a pop-up that comes up when you first log into rationale.com. It will explain your account limits.
If you keep running into issues then stop and build it in Plectica.
