Hello! It is so important that patient acuity be taken in to consideration when staffing units and meeting nursing staff needs. These staffing matrix are easily used and help immensely. This is a great topic to cover.

Great poster! The staffing acuity matrix is a great idea. I wish we had something similar to that when I worked Med/Surg!

This is such a great topic! Your poster was very eye catching and has a lot of wonderful data to it! People don’t realize that there is so much to having safe patient ratios. It is safer for the patient and the nurse, but it also protects your nursing license (I realize this is the least priority when it comes to a life), but it is extremely important to protect your license as well. I have had to fight with administration over some of these issues when I was an assistance nurse manager, in the end, I left my position because I wasn’t willing to risk my license anymore.

What a great topic to discuss. With the challenges of healthcare today, including nursing shortages and low retention, it is so important for nurses to feel their assignments are given fairly. Heavy workloads, and increased patient acuity has lead to job dissatisfaction. Acuity matrix is a tool to improve nursing shift assignments. Many floors will split the patients among staff members equally but nursing-care requirements vary with each patient.
