Hello all! I chose to do my research poster on the effects of oral sucrose on pain response in infants and children during immunization administration. Immunizations is a large part of my job in a primary care clinic. It is my responsibility to determine what children are due for when it comes to vaccines based on their age. I often see children come in who are behind on their immunizations and part of that reason is because the parents are afraid to give their child vaccines because of the pain it can cause their child. My clinic currently doesn’t use this practice of administering oral sucrose prior to giving immunizations, but with this research project, I have found that the outcomes have been positive and would like to introduce this practice to our clinic. I think if parents see that their children aren’t in so much pain when getting vaccines, they would be more apt to ensure that their children stay up to date and get the recommended vaccines for their age.
