Introduction

Hello everyone!

My name is Sadie Selenke. I currently live in Chapman, KS, but am originally from SW Kansas. I am married and have a 2 year old boy with another baby on the way! Our little guy is going to be a big brother to a little sister, so we are very excited for June to arrive, although I’m hoping for May. 🙂 Our family enjoys being outside or going back to the farm in SWKS to see family. We are also big Chiefs fans, so we are very excited for the Superbowl this year. I also enjoy baking in my spare time, mainly cookies.

I have been an RN for 8 years. I got my Associate’s Degree from Garden City Community College and began my career in Hays as an RN in the Operating Room as a circulator for 3 years before relocating to Chapman to work at Fort Riley. I continued working as a circulator at Fort Riley until after having my first child. I then switched to Primary Care due to the difficulty of being on call and having a baby at home. I have since been working in Primary Care and am the RN for an Internal Medicine provider and Family Practice provider. I do enjoy the clinic but sure miss the action in the OR! My job in Primary Care involves managing medication refills, referrals, provider schedules, etc, with some face to face patient care. I recently decided to go back for my BSN and am planning to continue on to a P.A. program once completing my BSN.

As far as research nursing in my current job, I think it is used more than I realized. There is constant research and updates to medications and immunizations. Research is also done so nurses and providers can provide the best practice for patient care. In my job, I was tasked to research the best practice for how we take blood pressures on patients to update our policy and procedure for this practice. With this research, I looked for recommendations from different groups, trials, etc to provide new and updated information for this policy.

Ready to get started with this semester! Enjoy everyone!

    Sadie,
It sounds like you are very busy and about to be even busier. I hadn’t thought about research being used in primary care office nursing but of course, it is used in every aspect of nursing. Now that I think of it, every single thing we do as nurses has to be backed by evidence. I have lots to learn in this class. Good to have you here.
