Introduction

Hello.  My name is Eddie.  I have been a registered nurse for 15 years.  I have worked in the Medical, Surgical, Telemetry units, hospice and home health, and I currently work in Utilization Management.

Research is important in nursing because it is the confirmation behind the standards of nursing practice.  When a study is completed, it provides the data to change and use best practices.  Evidence-based practice allows nurses to ensure that a study is valid and reliable.  The results of research influences nursing practice, patient care, and patient outcomes.  Nurses must be able to evaluate a study to identify any problems, shortcomings, limitations, or biases it may have.  Research allows nurses to maintain their education and keep up-to-date on the latest and best practices.

Welcome to the course, Eddie! Yes, the evidence drives practice! That’s exactly what I want everyone to recognize throughout this course.
