We have looked at two surveys as part of this exploratory process.
In May 2018 the Docking Institute and Technology Services launched a poll of faculty, staff, administration and students.
- Of 337 Faculty Respondents 185 (54.9%) were either ‘somewhat’ or ‘very’ satisfied with Blackboard.
- Of 995 Student Respondents 840 (84.4%) were either ‘somewhat’ or ‘very’ satisfied with Blackboard.
The more comprehensive Blackboard LMS Faculty Survey was administered between October 4th and October 12th.
There were a total of 305 responses. This is the link to the Preliminary-BB-Survey-Report-Q15_10-26-2iogjhn.
Here are some important takeaways from the survey:
- 80% of respondents are only using 5 Blackboard features; gradebook, announcements, assignments, content/file sharing, and email.
- Between 30% and 40% of respondents are using adaptive release, course calendar, question pool/library, course reporting or groups
- fewer than 20% of respondents are using BB blogs, wikis, journals, or Blackboard Collaborate
- Respondents express high overall satisfaction with the tools they are using (avg response @4 on a 5-pt Likert Scale)
- 16% of respondents expressed a preference for staying with Blackboard
- 24% of respondents expressed concern about the time and effort that might be involved with changing to a new LMS
- The primary characteristics respondents were looking for in an LMS were:
- ease of use
- mobile friendly
- reliability
- ease of navigation
