What is your name?
- Jessica Malone, but all the cool people call me Jess.
Are you a graduate student?
- Yes I am.
Why did you enroll in this class?
- I am doing the MSN for Nursing Administration, and I thought this course would be a valuable elective for my career goals
Have you heard of my class and/or teaching methodology?
- No.
What are your initial thoughts?
Initially, I am feeling very overwhelmed.
- The complex adaptive syllabus is unlike anything I’ve ever seen from any of my previous classes. I had a very difficult time getting logged into the class WordPress site, at first I thought it had something to do with the fact that I was already logged in to WordPress for my personal blog, but I finally discovered the issue. My username was lmalone2, but my actual fhsu log in and email is jlmalone2. For some reason the “j” was missing. I don’t know if that was something I did wrong or if it was someone else’s mistake, but it was extremely frustrating and after a couple days of trying to log in and resetting my password a few times, I’m happy to report that I’m finally up and running.
What are your expectations of this course?
- My expectations for this course are to learn valuable management skills that I can carry with me in my career.
Did you sign up for the FHSU Promo free Plectica account?
- Yes
Did you join the SL Facebook group?
- Yes
I agree with you the complex adaptive syllabus was really different and hard to follow at first.
It was SO different from anything I’d ever seen before for a class. It was quite intimidating once I really started scrolling down and saw how huge it is. Good luck this semester! I know we’ll get used to everything in this class.
Hi Jessica, I am feeling overwhelmed as well. The Facebook group is reassuring me that it will get better as time goes.
You are not alone! I can’t get anything to work for me. I found this though, so that’s a plus. The FB group has me motivated…but my frustration level is peaking to be honest just getting things to sync and work! Good luck!
It’s so good to hear that I’m not alone. Also reading quotes on the syllabus is reassuring to me. I know if we all just stick with it, we’ll get more comfortable with it all.
Great job! Look forward to seeing more of your work! I gave you 10 extra credit points for posting on FB!
Thanks for the extra credit! I’m so glad there is a Facebook page. Having FB brings such a sense of security since I use it so much for socialization in my personal life. It almost feels like a safe place to go to help ease the anxiety of being in such a new and different course.
Glad to meet you! I am still totally confused too, but I am pushing through! Good luck this semester.
I have a feeling it will all start to make more sense as we progress through the course! Good luck to you!
Hey Jess! Do you work in a healthcare system now? My sister has her MSN and is a Clinical Nurse Specialist up at Children’s Mercy in Kansas City.
Hi! Yes I do, I work in Wichita as a Clinic Documentation Specialist at Ascension VC St. Francis. What do you do? Does your sister enjoy being a CNS?
Hi Jess. I agree with you about the syllabus being difficult to follow. I log into so many pages that I can’t remember which one is for what. Best of luck in your future in nursing administration.
