Essential VIII of the AACN states that “DNP graduates are expected to demonstrate refined assessments” (AACN, n.d). These competencies allow for the DNP prepared nurse to participate in executive leadership. The DNP in and outside of healthcare organizations are moving beyond traditional leadership roles to more senior executive positions. They are capable of coming up with innovative approaches in our highly complex healthcare environments. They can address efficiency, oversee patient care and cost factors (The, n.d.).
In evidence-based management practice, the DNP offers competency in leadership, strategic planning and resource utilization, measurement and analysis of healthcare outcomes, develop and management of quality improvement initiatives, inter-professional collaboration, and application of current research and best EBP. The DNP executive leader can affect healthcare by establishing and leading interdisciplinary teams, develop programs capable of improving patient outcomes, address national policy issues and advocate for change (The, n.d.).
