Effectiveness of the TEI Program for Bullying and Cyber-bullying Reduction and School Climate Improvement

Abstract

The increase in the prevalence of bullying and cyber bullying in recent years worldwide is undeniable. In most cases, the lack of the implementation of interventions involving all of the school community could be based on this limited efficacy. The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the TEI Program, an intervention based on peer tutoring, in the reduction of students using information systems to bully other students via cyberspace. The TEI Program aims to improve school climate. The design of the study was quasi-experimental, in which 2057 Spanish students (aged 11 to 16 years) participated from 22 schools and were randomly assigned to the experimental group (10 schools, 987 students) or the control group (12 schools, 1070 students). After the intervention implementation, the obtained results showed a significant reduction in bullying behavior, peer victimization, fighting, cyber bullying, and cyber victimization in the experimental group.

Experimental or Non-Experimental Nature of the Study

The study was experimental because the author states that the study involved the use of a quasi-experimental design. Like a genuine analysis, quasi-experimental plans build up situations and result connection between an independent variable. Notwithstanding, in comparison to a simple study. Subjects are doled out to bunch dependent on non-irregular standards. Semi-test configuration is helpful in situations where genuine analyses can’t be used for moral or valuable requirements.

Study Nature

The design of the research was quantitative. This is because it involved the use of several students who participated in the study

Population Studied

Be that as it may, in comparison to a genuine test, a half analysis does not depend on the task. All factors considered; the variables are allotted to bunch non-independent on non-irregular qualification. Semi exploratory plan is a helpful instrument in situations where actual tests can’t be utilized for moral or functional reasons.

Sample Used

2057 Spanish students aged between 11-16 years from different schools actively participated in the research; therefore, the measurement involved was nominal because it involved the naming of variables, whereby, each variable was the variables were named without any specific order.

Measurement Method

The method of analysis in this experiment was to count the outcome. Like a genuine examination, quasi configuration means building up scenarios result relation between an independent and dependent variable.

Method of Analysis

Be that as it may, in comparison to an actual test, a sub-analysis doesn’t depend on random task. All scenarios considered; subjects are allotted non-irregular qualities. Sub-exploratory plan is a helpful instrument in situations where simple tests can’t be utilized for moral or functional reasons.

Study Conclusion

The statistical tool used in this experiment was sample determination. When calculating a huge amount of data set or population, like a workforce, you do not normally need the collection data from every member of that population. This experiment was to find the right size for model accuracy. Applying the use of proportion and standard deviation techniques, you can determine the correct sample required to make data collection significant. Acquired outcomes showed a critical decrease in tormenting conduct, peer exploitation, battling, cyber bullying, and digital exploitation in the trial bunch after the mediation execution. Also, a crucial improvement in variables of the school environment was discovered distinctly in this gathering. The acquired outcomes exhibited that the TEI program is compelling in decreasing domineering jerk and cyber bully conduct and simultaneously further developing the school environment.

Usefulness of the Study

The study is helpful because the peer coaching process examined in this examination has an individual that includes the whole instructive local area, producing a making of a culture of tranquil concurrence and peacefulness in schools, encouraging more prominent passionate training more palatable relations between peers.

Next Logical Step

The program can be a valuable addition for clinicians and educators that work in their environments and for professionals who require systematic and validated techniques to minimize all types of all violence that occur in learning institutions.

  1. Great article with a phenomenal purpose! Cyberbullying is prevalent in this generation and it’s important for everyone to get involved. I’m excited to learn about these types of programs that not only decrease cyberbullying percentages but also serve as an outlet to children affected by this inhumane behavior. Thanks for choosing such an important article to review!

  2. I am very happy to see the results of this article. Cyberbullying and bullying, in general, are something that we as a society have become more aware of. I feel as though while actual in-person bullying has been had gone down, cyber-bullying is still as rampant as ever. It’s a huge relief to see that the conclusion of the study mentioned that there was a decrease in cyberbullying all while helping develop a positive school environment. It will be interesting to see how well this method can be implemented in other areas. I think the next logical step of the program, however, shouldn’t be to start implementing in other environments. It might be worth it to redo this again in a different setting to see the results and hammer out the minor details. This way, the process can be as close to perfection and help other learning institutions in an even better fashion.

  3. Hello:

With the advent of social media being able to be accessed on smartphones I think that cyberbully has gotten worse. Social media has always been a thing in cyberspace albeit in the olden days only “bulletin boards” existed. But now we’ve Facebook, Twitter, Twitch, Instagram, etc. which encourages bad behavior by jerks via an information system–smartphones.

  4. as kids have more access to electronics which make them believe they are old enough to have social medias then that is how cyber bullying is becoming more often. It makes you wonder why is it that the children believe that certain behavior is okay? Do they see this at home? Is it a monkey see, monkey do situation? This study is great which would help lead to the root cause if why this certain behavior may occur and in what age group is most common
