General Employer Information: Cerner is a multinational company that has been up and running for the past 40 years. Their headquarters is located in Kansas City, MO and have approximately about 27,000+ employees. According to research, “Cerner offers software, services, devices, and hardware for medical practices, long-term care facilities, retail pharmacies, and laboratories.” (Cerner EMR: A comprehensive guide 2021).

Your interest in the employer because of this research: There are a couple of pros and cons from coming across their mission statements and as well as reviews from current and old employees through Glassdoor. Cerner is very open and states how their main approach is diversity, equity & inclusion through out their associates and clients. Many current and past employees have stated that the company has great cores to their values, but the downside would be how they are constantly over worked and do not get enough compensation for their extra work. As I continue my journey in the tech world I have come across many former employees and which many left because of the treatment they get or some were laid off  with no explanation. Would this be a secured jo in place? Or would I have to be worried of being laid off with other 30+ employees in 6 months?

General Employer Information:  Cisco was funded back in 1984 and as of 2019 reports its revenue is about $51.7 billion. Both founders Sandy Lerner and Leonard Bosack started the journey with Cisco and over the years added more useful resources to allow smoother communications throughout technological systems. Because they were not able to email one another due to short comings from technology, per research “A technology had to be invented to deal with disparate local area protocols, and as a result of solving their challenge, the multiprotocol router was born.” (Executive biographies 2021). Cisco has now become a successful company which focuses in providing network hardware, telecommunications, software’s and other high-end services and products such as, security, collaboration, cloud and compute.

 

Your interest in the employer because of this research: Cisco has many attributes in their company such as financial, personal development, health, and wellness, and charity.  Cisco has been named the #1 Worlds Best Workplace for a second year in a row. As per research, “From purposeful work that makes a global impact and gives back to a company culture that empowers an inclusive future for all where employees can.” (Cisco careers: Join us – #wearecisco 2021). They have 96 locations and about 274 offices around the world! After reading and learning more about the company, I believe that it is a great place where I would consider working in. It seems as if they have good ethical values overall.

General Employer Information:  Netsmart is a health information technology company that develop HER, known as electronic health records and health information exchanges for many healthcare services, like behavioral health, human services, and post-acute. They have about 2,300+ employees, 670,000+ providers, 35,000+ client organizations. Netsmart was founded in 1968 and it is a fast-growing software healthcare company.

 

Your interest in the employer because of this research: This company really caught my attention as it offers many services for health care companies to help and be able and make their daily jobs run smoothly. As someone who has interest in both healthcare and technology, this company does a great job in interpreting their main goals and as well as their values that they have with their employees. Netsmart also encourages individual growth to allow employee to expand their skills and roles within the company.

According to research, they are “a full-service network, providing a diverse suite of capabilities for our clients, including creative services, media buying, enterprise solutions and data analytics to clients” (Linkedin 2021). Intouch has seven affiliates and about 1,200 employees. They have won the first Webby Award, they are the first pharma- friendly widget, and first D&I Champ.

 

Your interest in the employer because of this research: The founder created his first application at the age of nine! It is an online application portal named MSWatch. My first seeing a company show LGBQT and Hispanic Blog on their company website. This company seems to be a very young crowd. They all seem very passionate, and the CEO is a very goal-oriented man.

  1. I also wrote about Cerner and Netsmart for my potential employer’s post. I felt like they would be a great opportunity to look into after graduating due to their unique work environments and other benefits.

  2. Hi Samira! One thing that stood out to me was Cerner’s dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion. When looking for a job, I make sure to look for this type of company. As a woman in tech, it’s not always easy to find a job in my field. It’s encouraging to know that there are companies choosing employees based on how well they can do the job and not on their personal attributes. I think every company comes with pros and cons, what’s important is how well you’re valued as a person and it looks like Cerner’s mission is to ensure each employee is treated fairly.

  3. Hello Samira,
    I really appreciate that you asked the hard questions when it comes to Cerner and their work practices. As an interviewee, you should have the right to know why a company seemly always have openings and how the turnover rate is for employees. These are questions that can seem a bit disrespectful or wrong to ask in a interview or maybe that is just a me thing.
    You did pick a variety of companies to choose from. You have two more status quo type of tech companies in Cisco and Cerner, a mix of health and tech in Netsmart, and a younger up and coming company in Intouch Group. I really don’t think you can go wrong on any of these. It just really depends on what you are looking for.
    In terms of stability, the two best options seem like Netsmart and Cisco. For growth, I would say Intouch Group due to how new it is, there is a possibility you could rise up the ranks quickly and be a part of the leadership group. Cerner while still somewhat decent just seems to be the worse out of these four due to the news and experiences of the former employees.
