General Information: 

Banco Popular de Puerto Rico is the main bank in Puerto Rico with 163 branches all through the island and 51 in the United States and Virgin Islands (Soto, 2019). The bank first opened its doors in San Juan in 1893, and it has been growing since. This bank provides a wide range of services, from bank accounts, credit cards, loans of all kinds, retirement plans, business accounts, online banking, insurances,  ATMs, and more. Banco Popular is considered to be the biggest bank on the island, something that has been criticized by many of the residents because they fear the bank is getting too close to being a monopoly. Some of its competitors include Banco Santander de Puerto Rico, First Bank, Citibank, Scotiabank, and Oriental Bank. When compared to its competitors, Banco Popular offers the most variety of services and it’s the most accessible bank on the island. The bank was the first one to introduce the service of ATH Movil to the island. This is an app that allows clients to make instant money transfers to other people, as long as they have a bank account with Banco Popular and an active phone number. After a few years, Banco Popular decided to lend the app to other banks to use as well.

Banco Popular is known for its many branches, some are normal, everyday banks while others are branches that deal with specific issues, such as auto loans or mortgages. Besides being the biggest bank on the island, Banco Popular is part of the entertainment business as well. Every year they release a special Christmas production which consists of several local and international artists performing different styles of Christmas music, as well as highlighting the island’s traditions during this time of the year.

 

Why I’m Interested: 

I am interested in working with Banco Popular de Puerto Rico because it is a company that is always looking to innovate and provide better electronic services to their clients. We are moving towards a society where everything takes place online. Nowadays, there’s very little need to go to a bank in person, because everything you can do there, you can do online. People are starting to become used to the notion that they can do everything from their computers, and companies are starting to realize that as well. Banco Popular is a company that is shifting its focus on better online services, from modifying apps to bettering their website, to providing the options to chatting with a professional online as opposed to having to go to the bank or having to call. However, they are aware there are some services they can’t yet provide online and they are working towards making that happen. As an employee, I would love to be part of the process that helps facilitate the creation of systems that will guarantee people all over the island, as well as Puerto Ricans living in the United States, have the best access to these services regardless of where in the world they might be. They also provide great opportunities to recent graduates as well as growth opportunities within the company.

• With the world moving more towards online everything, what services do you plan to move online instead of in person?
• What requirements do you have when it comes to being hired for the IT department?
• Is the IT department responsible for the development of online platforms where clients can access more services?
• Banco Popular has branches all over the island. If I were to be hired to work in the IT department, in which location will I be working? Do you have the option of working remotely?
• Will we be working solely with a team from Banco Popular or do you hire other professional services to help the development of new technology?
• What is the average size for these kinds of projects?

General Information:

Triple S is one of the biggest health insurance companies in Puerto Rico and some Virgin Islands. They provide both private and public health insurance. They have been affiliated with Blue Cross/Blue Shield since 2009. Triple S provides an extensive variety of services and plans options for clients, as well as plans that serve in complement with Medicare. More importantly, in 2011, they affiliated with the Government of Puerto Rico to provide government-funded health plans to people of low-income families in the Metro area of the island. One of their most significant additions and changes was the introduction of Triple S en Casa, a service that delivered medicines to people’s homes.

Besides being one of the biggest health insurance providers on the island, Triple S is also a major sponsor for many sports teams and events. They are also one of the biggest job providers on the island.

 

Why I am interested:

With the COVID-19 pandemic, electronic medical visits became quite popular. It was a safe way to provide treatment to patients without exposing them to any illnesses. It worked so well that some doctors are adopting the system permanently. This is an excellent opportunity for health insurance companies to jump on. They can create a platform where their clients can have virtual consults with a group of doctors selected by the company that is available to the public without having to leave their homes. Insurance companies like Triple S currently do not have this kind of system in place, and that is why I would be interested in working for this company. I would love to help develop a platform where clients can access medical consultation regardless of where they are. Working with Triple S will also combine my love for technology and wellness all in one.

• Currently, what type of electronic services do you provide for your clients? Are they all managed by a team here in Triple S or do you hire outside help?
• Has the COVID-19 pandemic motivated the company to provide more online, contactless services?
• If I were to be hired for this position, in which branch will I be working?
• I see that you are affiliated with Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Does that mean that in the future? You will be providing the same services as them? Is that something that is currently in the works?

General information

Oracle is a company known for database software. They are one of the leading suppliers of software information (Nunns, 2016) and IT solutions. They were also the company that introduced Structure Query Language (SQL), which is now the standard in the industry (Nuuns, 2016). The company offers a variety of services and items, from software to cloud storage to hardware systems and much more. There is no doubting that Oracle is currently one of the biggest companies in the technology industry and providers of essential products to almost every company.

 

Why I am interested:

I have been following Oracle for quite some time. I’m always on the lookout for what they develop next or how they improve whatever they already have. As someone who one day hopes to work with app development and other software tools, working with Oracle would provide me with the opportunity to develop my skills and learn more about a new side of IT development that I’m not familiar with. Not to mention, I would love to work with the Oracle team in creating new items and technologies that expand and better their current products. Oracle is one of the biggest cloud infrastructures, something I would love to work with and help develop something new with it.

• What are your current requirements to join a certain team? Do you need to have different requirements to work with different aspects? Could you please elaborate?
• What are some of the projects that you guys are currently seeking people for?
• Would you say that the job performed here at Oracle is more individual or group-based? Is it a constantly supervised environment, or is it more on your own work?
• I have not graduated yet. What kind of training would Oracle offer me? Would I have a mentor who can guide me in the tasks that are new for me?

General information:

Microsoft is one of the biggest software developers, hardware devices, computers, tablets, apps, phones, and countless other electronic devices and software services. Microsoft was one of the first companies to provide these services at this scale and provide services for both personal and professional uses. Microsoft has created an empire that opened the doors for many other companies to do similar things. Besides software, Microsoft is also known for its electronics, such as laptops, tablets, computers, and apps such as the entire Microsoft Office bundle, which probably everyone has installed in their computers.

 

Beyond software and anything technology, Microsoft is known for its charity work. They provide scholarships for students and help provide education to those who do not have access to it.

 

Why I am interested:

I believe anyone who has any interest in technology has been interested in working for Microsoft. In my case, one of my main areas of interest is software and app development. Microsoft is one of the biggest companies in the world that does that. They are constantly innovating and creating new apps and software. Something that I am also interested in, is that when it comes to apps, they develop all kinds of apps. From educational apps to video games, they do it all. I think having such a range would provide even more opportunities, and it opens the door to more ideas, giving one more room to develop.

• What would be a typical day like at Microsoft?
• What are some new technologies or software solutions that Microsoft would be using on the projects that you are currently interviewing people for?
