This is my first presentation on sample size and diversity in qualitative research and sampling in the new world topics 33 and 34. I will be discussing sample size as it relates to qualitative research and the diverse ways data is collected. I also will discuss sampling in the modern world presenting an example utilizing qualitative research design method.
Sample size and Diversity in Qualitative research and Sampling in the New World Presentation
In a business plan I had presented for Kansas Start up in 2020, I created a survey that had 101 replies. I thought that this sample was significant to my presentation, but it can only give so much information. It taught me that diversity was a huge part of my survey and I had only looked at similar demographics for each of my participants. I missed a huge amount of the overall population when I tried to apply my product. It is crazy how important getting close to the actual population is when planning or taking samples.
Collecting data with these new world methods is appealing because it is simple. Since nowadays statistics get presented to us anywhere we look, it’s important for researchers to use methods that involve a diverse sample.
In the past, I have mostly conducted quantitative research seeing as my background is in genetics and microbiology. From all my experience with different quantitative research methods, I felt I had a pretty good grasp of sampling and research strategies. Qualitative research is extremely important as well and I felt you did a great job explaining how to diversify a sample. From personal experience, I could see qualitative research being extremely effective in fields such as psychology and anthropology. It is interesting to see compromises made with modern sampling methods through the use of the Internet and cellphones, while the simplicity offered through these methods is convenient it must be carefully balanced against the potential bias and accuracy that might be introduced.
