Diffusion of Innovation: The Console War has Already Been Won

I can recall a certain Christmas when I opened my present and found my very first gaming console. It was an Xbox 360. I had very few ways to learn about this device because I was so young. My knowledge of it was limited to the advertisements I saw about it on TV. Still, when I plugged it in for the first time, I knew I would continue to use it for years to come. I was hooked by an arcade game called Feeding Frenzy. From a young age, I made the optional innovation decision to stay on Microsoft’s side of the console wars. Since then, I have played on their next two generations of consoles. Because of this, I am in the confirmation stage of adoption.

I got my Xbox 360 about a year after its initial release. I would say I was in between the early and late majority. By the time I got my hands on the console it had already been available to the general public, but it hadn’t yet become obsolete by newer systems.

Although I consider myself one of the first Xbox players among my peers, I was behind for a while when it came to earbuds for audio listening. Apple released their AirPods over half a decade ago and it wasn’t until just recently that I purchased a pair. After having them for a few months, I find it hard to believe I went to so long without having a set of quality wireless earbuds as I have found them to be extremely convenient. By the time I had them, the newest model had been released. This and my own skepticism places me in the late majority adopters category for Apple’s device.

  1. Hi Milton
I think I got my Xbox 360 a few years after it came out. I no longer play it and have moved on to the Xbox One. Now I hear Microsoft is going to stop making games for it too. I still have my DS but rarely play it except on car trips. I am hoping to get a PC for games next.
