Diffusion of Innovation: Blog Post #2

I learned about the Xbox 360 when I went to my friend’s house to hang out in my early teens. I was hooked since then and begged my mom to get me a console for Christmas. I had to start with the free games that came on the console like Minecraft. I would say I am a late majority adopter because the majority of society had already adopted the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 came out in 2005 and I was in pre-school.  I did not get a hold of this innovation till It had been out a while and was cheaper to purchase. I made the decision to stop playing the Xbox 360 in high school and purchase the Xbox One.  The Xbox One had more storage, reliability, and a realistic experience of the virtual world of gaming. I still play the Xbox One with friends online using Xbox Live. I enjoy playing Minecraft, Call of Duty, Fortnite, and Rainbow. I reached the confirmation stage with the Xbox One because I still use this innovation.

Another innovation that I have fallen into a different category of adopters is the Ipad. The Ipad came out in 2010, and I got one when my parents won an Ipad in a radio contest that same year. I was an early adopter since I got one the year the Ipads came out. I was younger in age, had a higher social status with my friends, and did not have to worry about how much it cost. I had a rugged military-grade case and took it everywhere with me. I enjoyed being the envy of my friends while being able to play games and get my school work done faster. My friends eventually got Ipads also.

The cost of new technology innovation is always negative along with privacy issues and possibly getting a virus. The positive consequences are the benefits of the innovation which include being more socially forward the earlier you get the innovation, having a higher social status, and advancing your education faster because of the new technology.

  1. Hi Hamilam!

I never experianced the xbox 360. I was a play station girl but now I have an xbox one. Gaming for me is a time passing. I seem to calm down and get relaxed when I am on my PC or a gaming console. Do you have any other consoles? As for the ipads, they are super neat. Do you use yours for personal or school?

    1. Hi Kayla
I usually play on the Xbox One. I still have the Xbox 360 but don’t use it anymore. I have the Wii and an old PlayStation 2 or 3 my sister still plays on it. I hardly use the iPad anymore it is super slow. I have a Lenovo laptop I use for school. At some point, I hope to get a PC that I can game on.

  2. Hello Hamilam.

I use to play on Xbox 360. I think I used it for a few years then stop to play on my pc that I had at the time. the sole reason why I stop playing on Xbox was the membership cost. when you mention iPad cases. I was reminded of the iPads my middle school had. those iPads could be toss across the room and there was no damage to the iPad. I do have one question and that is how much better is the Xbox one vs the Xbox 360?

    1. Hi Justin
I know the membership costs are a pain. I enjoy playing Xbox One Live as most of my friends have it. We are not in the same state, so it’s fun to put our game on and catch up. The 360 they stopped making games for as you probably know, the Xbox one has more memory and graphics. Now I hear they are not going to make any more games for Xbox One, so I will have to upgrade. Did you say you play on PC? IF so, what do you have?
My Ipad is super slow now but it takes a beating and keeps working.

  3. Its really crazy how someone else can have the same experience! When reading your post about the Xbox i was the same way with the play station. Have you ever played the play station and which system do you prefer to play more?

    1. Hi Joshua
I have an old PlayStation. I wouldn’t mind a newer one especially since I heard they are not making games for the Xbox One anymore. Instead of Playstation or Xbox, I might try PC.

  4. Hello Hamilam,

I have always used the Xbox system for gaming. I love how we found out about the consoles in almost the same way! For the ipad i was always a fan of them but we are a little different in why we had them. I had my ipad because my home town school system gave them to students for classes.

    1. Hi Jonathan
It is definitely nice to get a free Ipad! I enjoy the Xbox One because most of my friends have it. What game do you play?
