Informatics in Healthcare – Amanda Rowen Week 1 Blog

Hello all! My name is Amanda just a little bit about myself. I am a single mother to a 17 year old daughter, nurse, clinical IT analyst. I am currently a senior at FHSU obtaining my bachelors in Healthcare Informatics, Internetworking, and Telecommunications. I have been a nurse now going on 11 years I am very passionate about nursing. About 4 years ago a close friend who knew I also had a passion for the advancing use of technology in our field suggested I switch to clinical informatics, since this is ever changing and rapidly advancing it is absolutely my niche. I am choosing the benefits of informatics in healthcare as my research topic.

  1. Amanda,

I used to work in healthcare in the informatics department. I really enjoyed working there! What would you like to develop your career to after graduating? I really enjoyed helping with telehealth and setting up new uses for it. Living in a rural area, telehealth is really important for everyone in the area.

    1. I would like to try and work for one of the larger EMR vendors such as Epic, or Cerner. Telehealth is a growing area for sure I have worked with it some myself in the past few years.

      1. That is awesome! My experience was with Meditech, Epic is definitely a great place to shoot for as it is one of the top EMR’s that are in a lot of major hospitals. I have several friends working for Cerner in Kansas City as well. Really awesome goals – I’m sure your family is proud of your hard work! 🙂

  2. Hey Amanda, nice to meet you, i know a little bit about nursing, I know it gets pretty hectic in the hospital. But for you to tap into your other passion is great , keep it up!

  3. Wow, you’re resume is very impressive. I hadn’t heard about Healthcare Informatics until I read your blog post. I looked it up and it seems like an interesting field. Interested to see how your research topic turns out.
