The first database I used for my first three searches was PubMed.
- My first search was for “Depression and anxiety compared to technology”. This returned 140 results, no filters used. The Boolean terms I used was “and”. The second article I found talked about the association of social media and teens. I believe this would give a good insight on how it affects the younger generations.
- The second search “Older adults and technology going with” The Boolean terms were “and”. The results were around 188, no filters used. I wanted to see how the older generation has been affected by this. I found a great one on “Impact of internet use on loneliness and contact with others among older adults: cross-sectional analysis.”
- The third one with this database was “schoolwork and technology also negative effects”. I had to use the filter and trimmed it down to articles from only 2017. I ended up getting around 102 results. The terms used were “and”. I did find an article talking about the effect of sleep quality with technology.
The second database I used for my next three searches was Google Scholar.
- My first search was “mental illness in young adults linked to technology”. I tried a different approach and not using Boolean terms to see what I could come up with. I had 32 results. I did look at an article about mental health concerns after COVID-19.
- The second one was “Anxiety Disorders and Smartphones”. Boolean terms were “and”. I ended up with 116 results under abstracts, I would like to see how these have affects us in a way. I found a good one dealing with smartphones and PTSD.
- My third and final on Google Scholar was “depression and lockdown computers” I received about 9 results under abstracts. I also tried “depression and lockdown and computers.” This one only gave me 2 results; I know it does not count but I found a good article with Problems and Solutions with IT works working from home. I put that in my APA references for aide.

I also would use AND as my boolean term. I found this one to be more helpful than OR or NOT. When I used those terms nothing seemed to show up. PubMed is a great database for all things that have to do with the health field and I like Google Scholar because I feel like they have everything that you put in the search engine.
Good luck on your paper 🙂
The advanced searches on the selected databases seem to do the trick for your topic. You have a very manageable selection of result and, hopefully, some good literature to review. It does appear the PubMed is the better of the two databases for your topic. Good luck with your paper. Its looks like you have got it covered.
