The news story that I decided to choose was about the shooting of Jacob Blake. The article can be found on Wall Street Journal which is called “Jacob Blake Shooting: What Happened in Kenosha, Wis.?” I chose this article because police brutality is a huge issue in our society right now and not a lot of people are taking it seriously and are not properly educated on such topic. Jacob Blake is one of the victims of police brutality. Jacob Blake tried to help stop a situation from being escalated, but then was met with two stun guns due to being suspicious. Blake then tried to walk away from police to his vehicle where he wanted to make sure his three sons were okay, but as a result was shot in the back seven times.

This story relates to timeliness because it is recent news and Blake is still fighting for his life from death and the government to prove his innocence. The story has an impact on the black community. His story is another black person (male) who was once again a victim of police brutality. The currency of this event was recently on August 23^rd and went viral on the internet due to a video that captured what had happened. The conflict occurred between the police officers and Jacob Blake. The shooting of Jacob Blake has brought on much emotion to the black community as well as many others who are deeply sorrowed by what happened. Prominence- proximity- This news story is important not only because it aligns with the Black Lives Matter movement that is occurring in our society today but also due to the fact that no matter what people have their rights and just like other victims unfair justice and brutality Blake’s rights were violated and something needs to be done about it.
