Hello everyone,
My name is Kerisa Brown and I’m a senior at FHSU. I’m majoring in Communication Studies with an emphasis in Public Relations and Advertising and I’m minoring in Media Production. I’m originally from a small town in central Kansas called St. John, but I’m currently living in my one-bedroom apartment on campus here in Hays. In my free time, I usually enjoy spending time with my friends, disc golfing and playing sand volleyball (while socially distancing of course). Apart from school and friends, I spend the rest of my time working as a part-time key holder at Bath & Body Works in the Hays mall. Fun fact about me: I’m actually an identical triplet! I’m one of three identical sisters. I personally don’t think we look alike but everyone else seems to think we do! I’ve put a picture at the bottom of this post if anyone wants to see.
As far as the news goes, I hate to admit it but I get most of my daily news from social media. Many of the larger news stories I see often come from Twitter or Snapchat. From there, if I see a story I want to look into a little more, I’ll then go to find it on a news website or podcast. I don’t have a go-to news site, but I usually lean towards stories that are neutral, fact-reporting websites according to the ad fontes media bias chart. These would include sites such as The Washington Post, NPR, ABC, The Wall Street Journal, etc. Occasionally I’ll also look at stories from news sites that are typically right-leaning or left-leaning and compare how the two stories were written and composed. For example, in the recent events of the Jacob Blake protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin, there was a shooting that occurred Saturday night between right-wing Trump supporters and Black Lives Matter Protestors. The victim in the shooting belonged to a Pro-Trump caravan that was met by “counterdemonstrators”. It is interesting to see how both CNN and Fox News report this story differently. If you want to check these stories out I also linked them below!
I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone’s blog posts and beats this semester!

Boy! You and your sisters do look a lot alike, but I think I see the difference. Are you on the far right in that photo?
Thanks, for the link to the media bias chart. That’s very interesting! When it comes to the two stories, how do you think they differ and which news source do you think covered the story better?
