Hello, everyone, my name is Haomiao Lu and I gave myself an English name Megara, which is actually from a Greek mythology. Obviously, I am a native Chinese, I have been in the United States for a year, I do not lie to you, English is really difficult for me, especially when it comes to journalism. I find that the life expressions I have accumulated from watching American TV series are totally inadequate in this journalism major. There are a lot of professional terms in journalism that I don’t know how to say in English, so there may be a lot of vocabulary or grammar flaws in my future blog. Please be tolerant with me, or help me to point out my mistakes in the comments section, but gently, because I am vulnerable, LOL. I will be very grateful to you!
When it comes to my view of the news, to be honest, I’m still confined to the domestic horizon, and I don’t pay much attention to some major events in the United States or the world. But I have to do it now, because I deeply understand the truth that “to live in a place is to understand the dynamics of a place”, because news is closely related to life, and paying attention to other people’s life stories is also a way to enrich my own experience. What I have been following most recently is the international news between the United States and China, because it concerns whether my identity as an overseas student is still valid, and, to be honest, the dynamic changes of international flights are a huge factor affecting my mood.
As far as I can see, one of the most popular news topics is this covid-19 epidemic. This epidemic started in China, and other countries didn’t pay much attention to it at the beginning, but now the situation in China has greatly improved, while the American people are suffering more and more, which makes me sad. But maybe we can reflect from this incident that if the US government had taken some effective measures in the first place, would the situation be different now? This topic really involves a lot of content, I need to do a lot of research work before I give my opinion, maybe I will have an opportunity to write in another blog in the future. Now I want to say that last year I met some awesome American friends that I haven’t seen in a while, and the church that I went to every week last year I haven’t been to for about four months now. I really wanted things to get back to normal, and I was shocked and saddened to hear that there have been 21 confirmed cases on campus. We are all part of one big family in the face of a worldwide disaster, anyone’s loss is our loss, and whoever is ill, the rest of us will feel sorry for them.
Finally, let’s get over the sadness of the epidemic. Let me introduce my beautiful hometown — Jiayuguan. Although it is a small place, it has four distinct seasons and unique Gobi scenery. Snow mountains, plains, deserts, sunrise, the Little Great Wall, you can find them all here.
I hope you can come to Visit China when you are free. The baby Pandas will welcome you!
