What: In this assignment we identified problems in Lakeview Health System. I was hired as the new CEO and then I hired and identified the personality traits of my new hires. I also evaluated 3 different ways of evaluating my structural design.

So what: Designing and structuring organizations is critical and now I have a better understanding on how different personalities can require adaptations. Each organization has their own problems and adjusting organizational design to the problems can help solve of the problems.

Now what: We will build on organizational design and how effective administration can lessen the possibility of any future problems

  1. Fantastic job! I was intrigued (see below) with your organization structure and that you decided not to make some hires.

I elected to organize Lakeview Health systems along the lines of a program structure. The programs function as the different clinics (health system, hospital, clinic, convalescent). To mitigate any potential pitfalls of program design I have included a few matrix type connections between leadership and the different clinics. It does mean some people have to answer to different people but my hope is that it will improve teamwork and decrease division within the organization.

  2. Hi Donnie, Great post and plectica map, i was surprised to see that the chief of staff is not employed in your organizational structure, for myself, i have put the chief of staff in charge of coordinating among the three divisions. According to my personal experience in working in several hospitals in the US, middle East and Europe, the Chief of staff is an important position clinical wise and serve as a bridge between the clinical and no clinical part of the hospital.

  3. Hey Donnie, I really enjoyed your map. I liked how you incorporated some Matrix structure into your organization to keep that communication open. I also really liked the choices of personalities that you chose for your new hires. Good job!

  4. Thanks for sharing, Donnie! I really liked the point you made in your 5-Why: “Each organization has their own problems and adjusting organizational design to the problems can help solve of the problems.” This is easy to lose track of, at least for me! Things seem very easy to plan and hindsight is 20/20. It is helpful for all of us to realize that every situation is different and has its own problems in order to understand why certain things have been done, or not done, by managers.
