KT5-Brandi Dixon

What? I have assigned personality types to the job positions in this assignment. I have also chosen a Matrix organizational structure because I am a firm believer in open communication in work places.

So What? I have a better understanding of how different personalities can play an important role in an organizations structure.

Now What? I will continue to learn more about how to build a strong foundation for healthcare organizations.

  1. I like the idea of matrix organizations too. But, I think if collaboration is poor it isn’t worth it. I have seen at the places I work at that function like a matrix system be confusing for employees that answer to different people and those managers are asking different things. Communication and collaboration I think should be simple and straightforward but I have seen it create negative environments within a team.

    1. I have to agree with this comment. I believe that there is an enormous need for communication and it is a great idea to have staff collaborate with one another. However, in my experience at work, I hardly have any communication because I’m a department of 1. I am supposed to report to the administrator, however, he thinks I should get all of my information from individuals from the departments. This creates a lot of confusion and frustration. I love the idea of interaction among staff, but how do we combat this issue of “he said, she said”?

  2. Good feedback from Donald.

Brandi Dixon – great job! I liked your decision to choose the Matrix structure. Also loved your simple 5-Why!

  3. Hi Brandi, nice work on the map but i still did not understand how your organizational structure works, i understand that your aim was to have a matrix structure but who is in charge in every division of the healthcare system and who reports to who. You stated every job position role nicely and described the personality trait that was best suited for the job but i still don’t know how the role distribution flows in terms of responsibility and accountability. At the end of the day, in the healthcare business unlike any other field, you are dealing with patients and there is a lot of unpredictability in this sector.

  4. Great work miss Brandi! I have to agree that open communication can make or break a workplace. People want to work where they have safe spaces to speak freely! Very good points made in your map.

  5. Great Job Brandi! Most places are a matrix of sorts where people may have multiple bosses. At my company, I am a nurse on a mental health crisis stabilization unit ( think of it as an ER for mental health). In that respect, I report directly to the crisis director( a therapist) and also report directly to the area nursing supervisor. Both people are my boss.

  6. Hello Brandi,

I really liked the root cause analysis you did on the 3 issues you focused on. I believe you went into some great depth to try and understand the root cause of the issues and to eventually fix the problem at the source rather than come in with an overall opinion and shoot from the hip. I too chose the matrix structure. I believe this is a good structure for this type of environment because it allows for each division to run as it needs, but keep reporting to 1 central executive to allow for business goals to align.
