What is hypothesis testing? Provide examples in health promotion.

  • Testing a hypothesis by comparing it with the data’s hypothesis. A test used to determine whether the hypothesis assumed for the sample of data stands true for the entire population or not.
  • Eating a well balance diet of healthy food and daily exercise helps with a more energized day.

What are Type I and Type II errors? Provide examples.

  • A Type 1 error is also known as a false positive and occurs when a researcher incorrectly rejects a true null hypothesis. This means that your report that your findings are significant when in fact they have occurred by chance.
    • When a doctor is unsure of so goes what he feels is the right diagnoses and ends up doing an unnecessary procedure.
  • A Type II error is also known as a false negative and occurs when a researcher fails to reject a null hypothesis which is really false. Here a researcher concludes there is not a significant effect, when actually there really is.
    • My dad was told he had cancer in the bottom of his lung and needed to remove half of his lung and went to Mayo for a second opinion and it was not cancer but just bacterial infection in his lungs.

What is a One and two-tailed test? Provide examples.

  • A one-tailed test is appropriate if the estimated value may depart from the reference value in only one direction, left or right, but not both.
    • If a diet helps more than 1% of patrons.
  • A two-tailed test is appropriate if the estimated value is greater or less than a certain range of values,
    • If patrons may score above or below the suggested weight loss or gain.

What are the steps in hypothesis testing?

  • Hypothesis Testing Step 1: State the Hypotheses
  • Hypothesis Testing Step 2: State other Hypotheses.
  • Hypothesis Testing Step 3: Set Type I or Type II Assess the Evidence
  • Hypothesis Testing Step 4: Collect Data, Check Conditions, and Summarize Data
  • Hypothesis Testing Step 5: Assess the Evidence
  • Hypothesis Testing Step 6: Interpret the results
  • Hypothesis Testing Step 7: Make a conclusion

What is 5-Why? Provide examples in health promotion.

  • When “Why” is ask 5 times to help figure out a solution to a problem.
    • Why – Do I why do I want to diet?
    • Why – Did I choose this diet?
    • Why – am I going to make this diet a lifestyle change?
    • Why – do I want to lose weight?
    • Why – will I need motivation to accomplish this diet?

What is TRIZ and how can you use the tools discussed in this presentation?

  • TRIZ is a problem-solving philosophy based on logic, data and research, rather than on intuition.

What is conceptual thinking? And what is the difference between an idea and a concept?

  • The ability to analyze hypothetical situations or abstract concepts to compile insight.
    • Idea- to a plan formed by mental effort.
    • Concept – is a plan by procedure or structure.

What are the components of a function analysis and a function map?

  • Mapping A function is a special type of relation in which each element of the domain is paired with exactly one element in the range. A mapping shows how the elements are paired. It’s like a flow chart for a function, showing the input and output values.

  1. I like your use of a cartoon in the answer to one of the questions. I think that makes the map more viewer friendly. Good organization and presentation!
