Visible from the Interstate or as soon as you make your way towards the Nature Trails you’ll be greeted with a rustic sign saying “Dr. Howard Reynolds Nature Trails”. Carved by a local chainsaw artist, this sign welcomes you into the splendid grandeur of nature. Cut from Green Ash because of its consistency of wood grain, these signs highlight the beginning of the trails. Look at how the signs are mounted, upon further inspection you’ll notice it’s Osage Orange, the hardest wood in North America, rot resistant, and likely to last 50 – 100 years before decomposing. Take an even closer look and on one of the posts you’ll notice remnants of lightning as only a tree can preserve.
