Sternberg Museum of Natural History is partnering with the Science and Mathematic Education Institute at Fort Hays State University to run a workshop for grades 6-12 science teachers. This workshop is supported by a “Collections in Support of Biological Research” National Science Foundation grant to the Sternberg Museum (Award Number 1559733). Goals of the grant include making fossil data available to the public (including 2D and 3D images) and developing educational resources using Sternberg Museum specimens and data.
During the course of the workshop, teachers will (1) receive training on NGSS 3D, project-based learning models, and problem-based learning models, (2) receive an introduction to the paleontology collection at the Sternberg Museum, including the data and specimens available for classroom use, and (3) develop curricular activities using Museum fossil specimen data that can be implemented in their classrooms.
The workshop will run from Monday June 25 through Friday June 29 at the Sternberg Museum in Hays, KS. Participants will receive a $120/day stipend. Travel (up to $300), lodging, and meals will also be covered.
