Welcome to Headwaters, the Sternberg Science Camps alumni program! This page, and corresponding program, are under development as a resource for students interested in pursuing a career in the earth or life sciences. We hope you find it useful!
**Note: This page is still quite new, and under construction. We will be adding new resources intermittently, and providing updates on the Science Camps social media accounts when we do.**

Internship Program
- Field Data Curation Internships (2) $700 stipend (each)
- September – January
- Science Communication Internship (1) $700 stipend
- January – May
The Sternberg Museum high school science camps contain three annual competitive paid internships for the following school year. Each summer, up to three student participants are selected by the camp staff for 5 month positions in either field data management or science education. Each internship comes with a $700 stipend. The selected students will exhibit initiative, attention to detail in the field and the classroom, strong organizational skills (especially field notes), and positive, supportive attitude towards their fellow students during their time at camp. Work for the internship is almost entirely digital, so we are not limited by where the students live, nor do students need to travel to Hays for their internship. - Field Data Curation Internships (2) $700 stipend (each)

DeepDive Program
- Academic Research Preparation
- The DeepDive Program is a mentoring opportunity available to camps alumni who are interested in doing a literature review or research paper as part of a high school honors program, capstone project, or just independent project sanctioned by a teacher at their school, or through a homeschooling program. Students will be offered guidance from the Camps Director (or another qualified camps instructor) on starting their project, outlining content, assessing literature, and provided comprehensive edits and comments to their written work.
- Students must enter the program at the start of their project. This is not intended to be a method for free edits. Students participating must go through the following process for a literature review with the mentor working with them. (Typically, this will be Camps Director David Levering.) Students wishing to do a project using data will need to go through additional, customized steps not outlined specifically here. This process will include a realistic assessment of how the student can go about collecting data, and how much time the student has to complete the project.
1) Project conceptualization
2) Rough outline of topic
3) Reading and analyzing research literature
4) Detailed outline of topic
5) Drafting, edits+comments, and revisions processCompletion of projects is completely the responsibility of the student. Progress through different stages of the project process is at the discretion of the mentor.

Camp Instructors & Alumni Network
Many camps alumni and instructional staff are members of the Sternberg Science Camps page on Facebook. It is a closed group to prevent it from being inundated with just anyone who stumbles onto the page. If you are a student alumni or parent of a student, just request access. Our administrator will approve your request as soon as they see it.
