These age groups are similar in many developmental findings so we are talking about them together. Although they have many similarities, each age group also has many distinct developmental milestones.
The 1-year old is beginning to use the art of imitation in her repetition of familiar sounds and physical gestures while the 4-year old has mastered most of the complex rules of the languages that are spoken in the home and can communicate thoughts and ideas effectively. (Bright Futures).
