Great voice over. The PowerPoint looks and sounds so professional. Bullying is sadly a huge problem in the workplace. I am really surprised that there is currently no laws in place for work place bullying. I also think that many managers don’t know that bullying is going on. Often the victim doesn’t want to tell for fear of causing a bigger issue and getting more backlash.

One of our patients is a workplace bully. He is a large individual, and management has taken a hands off approach with this individual. It is very hard to work in this environment, since management at this moment, is keeping its distance from this patient. They have created separate rules for this patient, and the other patients see this behavior.
Your presentation was very detailed, filled with helpful information.

I am sorry to hear that! That is very frustrating and, unfortunately, give the impression that the behavior is okay when it is clearly not. Hopefully someone will eventually stand up to the managers and say something or find another solution.

I never really considered when a patient is a bully. I wish that we didn’t need laws and protocols and rules for everyone to just “be nice to each other.” It makes me sad that I have to live in a world where everyone can’t just be an adult. You don’t have to personally like someone to be nice to them.

Great presentation. I think workplace bullying is more prevalent than we realize. I think most managers are unaware that it is going on. I personally have not witnessed it in my career but its probably there and just not obvious. Thank you for sharing this topic!

You’re welcome. I worked in several bad environments in my career. I couldn’t exactly tell what was so horrible about them, but while researching the presentation, workplace bullying was answer. One place (that is now shut down) the charge nurse wanted to be viewed as God apparently and belittled anyone new and routinely patient dumped on agency staff. It was horrible to work in, I finished my contract and left that place for good. The agency kept calling me to work there but I said no way. They had so much trouble keeping staff they couldn’t care for their patients and got closed down. I’m glad it was horrible for patients and workers alike.

Great job guys! What an important and relevant topic to discuss. I have never considered how this issue could be handled from a management perspective, so I am glad your group decide to discuss this. I like how you mentioned that bullying can be costly- financially and emotionally. It makes sense that turnover rate is higher if employees are bullied. It is also difficult to come to work when you are miserable! Very informative.

That was a great presentation. I never thought about the cyber bullying. We have recently had to implement a social media policy, due to inappropriate posts by our staff. We had a anti-bullying policy and this would have fit right into that. Thank you for this information it will be very helpful to take back to my work.

Social media is a big problem. I don’t even want to be on there at work, because if something happens they can discredit you in court. “Really? Were you really observing the patient and doing hourly rounding? Or were you on facebook. It looked like you commented on your friend’s picture…” And it is a bad place to air your problems, in general, but extra dangerous when things you say could be tied to confidential information.

Thank You for sharing this great presentation. I think workplace bullying is a widespread issue in which people need to be educated on in order to put an end to it because it puts unnecessary strain on the employees. I have actually witnessed bullying at the place I used to work at and it was sad to see that management didn’t take any actions. I believe employees should have the right to feel safe in their work environment and be free from workplace bullying.

I was not really aware of how much bullying occurs in the healthcare profession. After listening to your presentation I did some more reading on the subject. Research tells us that bullying in the healthcare industry occurs more frequent than in any other industries in America. It is said that the main reason is due to the high demand and pace of the work environment. One study shows that 71% of radiation therapists being bullied and witnessed by 94%.
