Conflict Management

Lorraine Segal mentions five tools to use for conflict resolution. The first one she talks about is accepting conflict.  Many people think there is something wrong if there is conflict, however Lorraine states that conflict is normal, especially in groups.  This actually made me feel a little better about my day at work today, which included some conflict. Another tool that she explains is managing our emotions.  This relates to my hot button as I feel that when my button is pushed, my emotions are running wild.  I would say one of my hot buttons is when there is lack of communication in the workplace.  I work in a small unit and expect that we will have good communication, however this is not always the case.  Examples are meetings that are scheduled but the staff is not notified, this happens often.  I have asked multiple times if we can have a system of sending out an email to our group just to make sure we know. This seems like a simple way to communicate to the group.  I will consider managing my emotions better and letting go so things that affect my hot button don’t jeopardize my career.

Your post is excellent! You give a different conflict solution from other posts I have read, which is to accept conflict. One of the worst things we can do sometimes is avoiding conflict. Conflict in the workplace is natural and is unavoidable most of the time. If we accept that conflict will happen, we can better handle challenging situations (Clarke University, 2017).
