That sounds incredibly frustrating, to have a manager that refuses to deal with conflict among staff members. I have a manager that displays passive-aggressive tendencies, and has been known to tacitly insult staff as well. This makes it hard to keep best patient care at the center of our work place at times.
well thanks for your support. I realize people have different agendas. Sometimes it is better to just move on. I have had good managers in the past, will have more in the future.
I agree that identifying the root cause of a problem is an effective strategy to solving the conflict. I have found that some problems seem to be multilayered over top of an original discrepancy that could have easily been corrected.
In regards to the situation you described with you staff’s unprofessional behavior, that should not be tolerated. I understand that managerial efforts can be lackadaisical at times but that behavior will impair cohesive team work.
It is sad to hear how management did not handle the situation. Disrespect should never be tolerated, obviously they are not good managers/leaders. The situation should have been addressed and handled professionally. Personally if this was to occur again, I would take it further and go to my union. I know many institutions do not have a union, but cases like this need to be handled by the highest authority at the facility.
