It sounds like you have gotten to have some great work experience. This degree will only help you as you continue to do all these things! I have worked in a small hospital before but it still had 20 beds so 14 is crazy to even think about. Good luck this semester and for the rest of the program!
Wow! A 14 bed hospital is unbelievably tiny to me. I worked in a critical access hospital on the lost coast of California that was 75 beds, and that was considered dinky. You make good points about the unique challenges that face small hospitals, particularly CAH’s. Not only do they have a rather limited population to serve, but lack of training and experience with new procedures, high volume critical care, etc can be a major issue in those hospitals.
I currently work in a 45 bed hospital in Ashland, Oregon (ER) but just accepted a position at a cath lab at Rogue Regional Medical Center, 10 minutes up the road at a 375 bed hospital. It will be interesting to compare how nursing at a tiny hospital compares to a major facility that treats STEMIs for the surrounding 4 counties!
It is nice to meet you and to start this class with you. You’re role as a researcher was very interesting. That role is very important and can lead to nurses adopting best practice. Good luck in this class.
