Hi Susan! It sounds like you have varied experiences. I too was overwhelmed in the long term care setting. I’m glad that you enjoy mentoring. The nursing world needs good mentors just like you. Have a great rest of the semester!
Working on the med/surg floor defintly allows for varied experience and never a dull moment. I did learn how to deal with older patients while working in long term care.
I love hearing when CNAs become RNs! I did the same. I went from administrative work in the non profit sector, considered becoming an RN, but decided to become a CNA first to be sure patient care was something I wanted to do. It was a good decision for me.
Good luck in the class! I look forward to learning with you!
Hi,
I think all nursing students should be required to be CNA’s for at least six months. It gives you hands on practical experience and the opportunity to discover if nursing is for you or not.
I can imagine your transition from CNA to LPN to RN has given you a special view of the chain of command. I also took this route in my nursing career. My experience has allowed me to better delegate tasks and manage other people. You should feel very accomplished for taking the initiative to rise in the ranks of the healthcare team. Good luck in this class and all your future nursing endeavors.
Hi Susan! Great to see you! Where is “local” for you? I’m happy to have you in the course this semester.
Hi. I work in Rocklege Florida which is not too far from the space center where Spacex launch rockets.
