Nursing Specialty Certification

There are several certifications that I would like to hold and plan to work toward after graduating this semester. I certainly want wound care certification and have spent time comparing the different certifications available. I am also interested in infectious disease as super infection proliferates. I am moderately interested in geriatrics and would certainly obtain certification in that field if I eventually decided to work in an outpatient setting that serves seniors. I currently work with a nurse who covers wound care and infectious disease for a small hospital where I used to work in the floor. I now cover her responsibilities when she is out of the building.
The certification would lead to more opportunities and help to make my resume stand out from competition. It would increase employer confidence that I have mastered my area or areas of specialty. Professional certifications in nursing show our patients and the general public that our knowledge base is extremely broad and that it is worth taking the time master a subset of that information in order to provide better care. Obtaining certifications shows a commitment to remaining current on the information that pertains to your specialty.

It sounds like you have your plate full when the nurse you work with is out. That’s a great asset for you to have and a good addition to your current skill set. Keep achieving the certifications you want to possess, I’m sure you’ll do great!

I think thats great that you have so many certifications that you would like to obtain. It will definitely benefit you currently and in the future when caring for your patients. It will help specialize the care that you deliver and improve patient outcomes.
According to the American Board of Nursing Specialties, it confirms that certification is associated with improved patient outcomes.
