I think you guys did a great job on your presentation. The information was clear and well detailed. I use this constantly and will again, ‘communication is key.’ I’m very avid on the idea of communication. It is something utilized throughout our everyday lives, rather than just in our workplace. Vertino (2014) states “use of effective interpersonal communication strategies by nurses in both personal and professional settings, may reduce stress, promote wellness, and therefore, improve overall quality of life.” The required use of its constant existence only validates its importance in our careers in taking care of patients. A well-made point stuck out to me in your presentation; “Communication is a vital element in all areas of nursing and in all its interventions. In order for nurses to be successful in their work they have to study communication and interpersonal relations.” This is true and real. It’s not expressed enough on how we can improve our patient overall satisfaction and outcomes by solely having open, clear communication across the board.
Great presentation. I recall learning about SBAR in my ADN program and need to remember to incorporate it into my practice. Regarding the use of social media, if an organization were interested in doing that I would suggest having both a public profile available on the standard platforms like Facebook, etc, and then having a separate internal profile on an application like Yammer. Yammer is essentially a Facebook for businesses according to Moscaritolo (2012) and can be used to help separate public information from private, employee-only information.
