What does “Nursing Leadership” mean to you

People are naturally drawn to a leader when they need help or guidance in a situation. This person doesn’t have to be in a position of authority. They are sought out for their knowledge and leadership not for their title.

how did the meaning change (or stay the same) after viewing the Module content?

I can’t really say that my view of leadership has changed since reading the assigned chapters, but I can put a name to examples that I see in use, like the Laize-Faire leadership I see in my department at work.

Describe the Leadership behaviors you have observed in yourself and/or colleagues.

With the Laize-Faire leadership behavior style that I am accustomed to at work, I see 12 different people (nurses & scrub techs) who change assignments at will to suit their own desires, and no one is really held accountable for their actions. One nurse had been trading assignments for nearly 3 months before it was brought to light that she wasn’t coming in to work until after 8:00 because she didn’t have child care. Since our surgery schedule starts at 7:30 each day this simply does not work out well.

Could a behavior be modified to create a more effective leadership strategy?

I believe that the leadership in my department needs to take a hard line on accountability and enforce the so-called rules set forth. Staff would then be required to follow said rules and complete assigned tasks or consequences would be put into place.
