Leadership and Management

What does nursing leadership me to me?

To me nursing leadership isĀ  about someone who has the ability to assess the situation and be able to give not only give constructive feedback, but be willing to get out there on the floor and work with their staff to find a solution to problem. I feel like there have been so many times where the leaders are willing to call the shots or make decisions about how things should be done, but do not involve the input of their staff. I also feel like being a patient advocate is very important and we as nurses do not get the chance to do as much as we would like to at times due to staffing issues and patient load. After reading the module I realize how we as nurses need to work on patient educationĀ  and training so that they can better understand their disease processes and be able to manage things at home.

Describe the Leadership behaviors you have observed in yourself and/or colleagues. Could a behavior be modified to create a more effective leadership strategy?

Leadership behaviors that I have observed with a colleague recently is micro managing certain things. I feel that this individual spends more times doing such things as looking for wheelchairs or taking pictures of items that are stored in the wrong places. I just feel like there are more productive things that could be done.
