Hello everyone! Below is more of the professional viewpoint of my practice and why I LOVE teaching for FHSU in the RN to BSN program.
Now for a couple fun facts about me….
I love running! Running is my favorite. I’m currently attempting to run a half marathon in all 50 states! So far I have Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Texas, Arkansas, New Mexico, Washington, Wisconsin, Florida, South Carolina, Missouri, Utah, and Massachusetts complete.
My husband (who is also a RN and FHSU graduate) and I have two girls who are full of awesome! We love traveling together and seeing this beautiful country!
This person is my greatest inspiration, my Dad. His entire job was research (chemical engineering)! From a very young age, he instilled his spirit of inquiry into our daily lives. His passion and support for education and in-depth knowledge of the research process is a major driving force behind who I am, and who I aspire to be.
Now, tell me about YOU!
Katie,
That is awesome, half marathon in all states, you go! I love running too, but have not been that ambitious :). I appreciate what you said in your video, about looking at our practices differently. I absolutely agree, sometimes we do things, because it’s habit, but change is not always bad and needs to be considered always. I look forward to this class and what you have to share.
Thank you for your comments, Michelle. Change is definitely NOT bad, especially when executed in an organized manner. You will learn the foundations of this through the course!
Katie,
Teaching is defiantly a calling. It is wonderful you have found your passion. I am looking forward to learning how to utilize research into practice.
Just reading the first module has made me more aware of just how important research is to nursing.
And it’s only the beginning, Cathy!
Katie,
I love teaching, too. I think that if I weren’t working in the field of nursing, I would have to work in education. I absolutely love seeing the “eureka!” moment when a difficult-to-grasp subject suddenly falls into place and is suddenly “easy stuff” for the student.
I’m no runner, but I did do my first 5k in Tulsa in the Williams Route 66 race last year. It was my first medal for racing, ever. My feller ran the marathon a few years ago. To run a race in each state is an awesome goal!
I am really looking forward to learning more about research and improving my process at work through this course.

Do you live in Tulsa? I always love it when students live near me or work at my hospital! And actually, as a nurse, you ARE a teacher! Whether in the traditional sense or not. Welcome to the course!
As you mentioned on my post, I live in Coffeyville, but the feller and I drive to Tulsa (and Joplin, Bartlesville, Wichita, and Kansas City) frequently.
He’s from Wichita and I lived in Kansas City for about ten years. Sometimes we just have to go deal with rush hour traffic, construction detours, and long drive times to get from one place to another to remind us again why we’re living in Coffeyville.
So, off subject, but I need to know if your mid zip with the FHSU Nursing logo (the one you are wearing in your intro video) is available for students to purchase?! I’d love to have one!
