Introduction

Hello everyone!  My name is Jennie and I have been a budding new nurse for the last two years.  I work in a LDRP unit as well as our level II nicu.  This class will hopefully hit home with me and give me tools I need to implement several projects I am currently working on.  My facility is working towards becoming recognized as a High 5 hospital.  I am also working towards starting a non-profit breastfeeding coalition, building a safe sleep program, and implementing patient safety bundles.  Using evidence based practice is crucial in my everyday practice especially as we work towards standardizing the policies and protocols my facility uses.  My husband and two boys have been amazing throughout my journey as a new nurse and becoming involved making changes.  We balance it out with family time at the lake.  I look forward to hearing from everyone else this summer!

Nice to meet you, Jennie! My nephew was just discharged from NICU yesterday. He was 4lbs when born last Thursday and didn’t want to eat day 2. He wasn’t in the NICU long thankfully. He is home and eating good. Great to hear the programs you are working on, so important! Look forward to having class with you.

Hi Jennie, welcome! This class will lay the foundation for practice improvement, leading to NURS 449 and NURS 450, which will then show you EXACTLY how to develop process improvement. It should be valuable!

    Jennie,

Nice to meet you and have a great semester. As I read our handout on evidence-based practice, and research it states that nursing’s evidence-based practice is often not research based. It is mainly problem solving based on utilizing scientific evidence with experience (Newhouse, 2007, p. 433). I can see the overlap needed in all nursing areas to provide the best care and outcomes for our patients.
With standardizing the policies and protocols for the the High 5 hospital, are you seeing this overlap?

I must admit I did not know what was all involved in a Hospital participating in a High 5 for Mom and Baby program, so, I looked it up, and learned something today! Good luck! I miss spending time at the lake, I moved from a place where there was a lake every few miles to a state where there weren’t many, I miss it! Try to have fun this summer!
