Hello all, my name is Christina Sare, I normally go by Chris. I work at an Emergency department at a critical access hospital in a small town here in Kansas. I have been an RN for about 4 years and I was an LPN for about 3 years prior to that. I briefly worked PRN in a nursing home and a med surg unit and worked in a clinic right after completing my LPN, I then started as an LPN in the ED and that is where I have stayed. I love my job, we have a great team. I decided to go back to complete my BSN simply because you just never know where life will take you. So many places are now requiring a BSN, I wanted to go ahead and finish now considering I am an older student anyhow and I didn’t want to have to go back and get it later after being out of school for a long time.
I have 3 children, my oldest is 24 and he is in the US Airforce and is currently stationed in NC. My second is 19 and she is currently in cosmetology school and the third is 15, she will be a sophmore in high school and she is very active and involved in anything she can get involved in. She plays volleyball and softball and she is a cheerleader for basketball.
Research plays an important part in all nursing. Currently our facility has been working on becoming a level 4 trauma hospital from a critical access hospital. I have been heading up this project working closely with the the ED manager in compiling the information needed for this change. It has been a long process to say the least and with all of the Covid situation it has kind of been put on the back burner for now but I am hoping that this class will assist me in understanding how and what to research while working on gathering all of the information needed.
Hope everyone has a great summer, looking forward to getting started.
Welcome to the course, Christina! You might focus on this change for projects in 446, 449, and 450. In this course, you will start looking for the literature support as to why this change improves outcomes in your community.
Thanks for the advice for using this for future projects. We have put a lot of it on hold with all of the Covid issues so this would be a good time to get it started again and combine my work with my final 3 classes.
Chris,
I love the ED also, it is truly where my heart is. I feel like I learned something new every time I worked. I am finishing my BSN for some of the same reasons. Good luck this semester!!
I agree, it seems like I am always learning, I work in a rural hospital too so we only staff 1 ED nurse per shift so we do it all. It is sometimes stressful but rewarding many times also.
Hi Christina,
I think we were in a previous nursing class together.I had started to complete my BSN before I had children and then stopped when they were born. I find myself needing to go back to complete it after 22 years and things have really changed with all the new technology. That is what I find the most challenging and frustrating. I always said Labor and Delivery is like an emergency room for pregnant patients. Acuity changes every minute and you never know what is going to come through those doors. Good luck
Yes, we were in a previous class together. I agree the technology is very challenging, once I get it all figured out it isn’t too bad but with each class there seems to be a different discussion forum and by the time I figure out how to use it the class is over.
I agree with the technology part. I didn’t know much about a blog so I am learning as we go. Would you like to get a group together for the case study?
