introduction

Hello,

My Name is Melanie

I am a board-certified adult – geriatric nurse practitioner, through AACN as well as a board-certified cardiovascular nurse practitioner through ABCM. I received my ADN from Kansas City Kansas community college in 1993.  I began working at a small community hospital in Leavenworth Kansas owned by Sisters of Charity, Leavenworth.  In 1994, I transferred to a larger hospital in Kansas City, also owned by SCL and worked in the ICU.  I obtained my CCRN certification in 1995. In1996 I finished my BSN at the University of Kansas.  I continued to work for SCL between hospitals in the Intensive care units, emergency departments and supervising and later managing the critical care, emergency and cardiopulmonary departments. I completed my MSN in 2002 and left the hospital system to work in private practice as a cardiology nurse practitioner in 2004. I have done this ever since that time. I currently am employed by the Veterans’ health association and working at the Kansas City VA medical center. I have a special interest in electrophysiology and have spent the last 5 years working in a device clinic that I worked with my office nurses to set up.  My other special interest is heart failure   I am looking at heart failure management and how the addition of remote monitoring and thoracic impedance measurements can be utilized to optimize the medical management of patents and prevent hospitalizations through early intervention In her outpatient setting.  I

My project would directly apply to Essentia II as this focus’ on organizational and systems leadership, as well as on systems thinking (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2006).  My intent is to attempt to effect process and add to heart failure clinic practices in my organization and in effect improve healthcare outcomes.

This will require translation of research based evidence into practice protocols which integrate the standard heart failure guideline driven practice with the advanced information provided via technology which applies to Essential III, clinical scholarship and analytical methods for evidence based practice, and Essential IV dealing with the use of technology for the improvement and transformation of health care.
