Data review-Issues, Challenges and trimphs

My initial data was pulled in September. The data was pulled in two weeks. The original project was to have children only, but was concerned if there would be enough patients, so the final project included adults. Adding adults allowed boosting in numbers, I think that it was a positive change, because I am uncertain if i would have had enough patients if I would have just done children.  Adding adults boosted my additional numbers, and will hopefully also boost my final data pull.

My triumph is that the data was able to be collected in two weeks with no difficulty. Additionally was able to obtain all of the data needed.

There have not been any issues thus far with obtaining data or initiating the weekly emails. The facility has been very receptive to the education.

  1. Hi Violet,
All the immunization data will be great for the practice which you are working with. For the most part in my past practice (internal medicine); generally at each visit, I would review the prevention list, which automatically popped up. So many times previous providers would not go over the list or never bring up the fact of vaccines due. In many cases, it would have perhaps prevented a recent hospitalization of pneumonia, for example. This may not have anything to do with your project. But, one “screen” was Hepatitis C. I was appalled at the patients that had a positive screen, never diagnosed and had been seeing perhaps the same provider for 10 years. I did screen two, which were positive, one with non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver; referred them to a DNP that specialized in Hep C treatment; they were cured with Harvoni and 8-12 weeks of treatment. We cannot underestimate the importance of vaccines children or adults. Also, screens.
    Congratulations on a well-implemented project!

  2. Have you been collecting data as you go along? That is very smart. I would think it would be easier to keep on top of things. It’s great that you were able get the data so quickly. How long of a time span did you pull? Vaccines are very important and providing education is great. I am glad to see you included adults. Vaccines are important for adults as well as children. Good thinking!

I collected data in September for my comparative data from last years information. I will pull my current data in January after my education session is over.

      1. I am wondering, because I am thinking of how I am gathering data, do you pull the data yourself or does someone else pull it and provide you with the information?

I wrote in my irb that I could collect data with my clinical champion and the it person, so we did it together.

  3. Your triumph of data collection being complete in two weeks is no small victory. This project process has been interesting. It’s been interesting to watch how your education and approach has been able to be adapted to the needs of your population. I’m glad that adding adults boosted your numbers as well so that hopefully your data will yield your anticipated results.

It has been very exciting, it is great that the providers are excited about the education. It appears that this has allowed it to run smoothly.
