Topic 83: Introduction and Literature Reviews + Appendix C: Literature Review Excerpts

My  presentation shows what an introduction looks like along with what should be included for an introduction within a research report. It is important to note when doing an introduction do not have the heading of the research paper labeled introduction. The author should utilize an appropriate title to serve as the heading or the paper’s title. I also discuss what a literature review is and what it contains. A literature review and a summary are two different things, so it is important to not summarize each individual study when conducting a literature review. Annotated bibliographies are good for short summaries of information, but they are not the same as a literature review. A literature review serves as a way of providing the reader with prior research of studies that have already been done, serving as a base for the research to build off of.  Lastly, I discuss a few examples of literature reviews and how they go about conveying the information to the reader without summarizing each individual study.

The topic can be found in Part 10 of the Patten and Newhart text, while the excerpts will be found in Appendix C.
