Slight Edit to my recent comment:
Phone companies are probably one of the best areas to work for when working with customers and dealing with customer issues. Beyond phone companies, Tech Support really is the only other place to go about any of that. Larger companies like Verizon have more service areas in more places, meaning you might be able to get to talk to someone from the other side of the country about their issues and help them, which is something I found cool. There may also be chances to travel some with the telephone company if you have to go out to a tower or troubleshoot a cellular area, although that chance to travel may be small.
I guess one big question I would have for the employers would be: What sort of people would I have to interact with, and what would I have to know in order to interact with them? Languages, cultural differences, things like that.
