Week 3 Presentations on Sampling

As mentioned previously, discussion groups will examine some of our key assignments and activities leading to the Research Proposal due at the end of the semester. Additionally, each group is assigned one or two chapters of the text to present. This post is to assign presentations to one group during Week 3.

As noted in class:

  • These presentations should be brief, at least three minutes and not much more than ten minutes at most.
  • They should include explanatory visual and an explanatory audio track. I expect most will simply be narrated slide shows, but feel free to be more creative if you wish.
  • You can email me to schedule a presentation during class or post the presentation to the blog on your own.
  • When posted, presentation should be tagged “presentation” and with topical tags related to the presentation’s subject.
  • Each presentation should be categorized in the week it was assigned/due.
  • Group members will each get an individual subtopic and post it individually. In a later week, they will discuss each other’s posts.
  • Ricardo did a great job getting us started with his presentation in Week 1.

A rubric is available in “My Grades” on Bb. Additional details and an example of a presentation during class is available in the Week 1 and Week 2 presentation assignments.

Once you are done with the quiz this week, you should turn your attention to Part Four of the current text, on Sampling. The following students will prepare presentations on that chapter this week:

  • Michael Flavin:
    • Topic 25: Biased & Unbiased Sampling
    • Topic 26: Simple Random and Systematic Sampling
  • Matthew Hayes:
    • Topic 27: Stratified Random Sampling
    • Topic 28: Cluster Sampling
  • Esau Cervantes:
    • Topic 29: Nonprobability Sampling & Qualitative Research
    • Topic 30: Sampling & Demographics
  • Fin Tatum:
    • Topic 31: Sample Composition & Bias
    • Topic 32: Sample Size in Quantitative Studies
  • Cody Vangosen:
    • Topic 33: Sample Size & Diversity in Qualitative Research
    • Topic 34: Sampling in the Modern World
