Research Proposal Plan: Is Media Distrust Due to Social Media and Advertising?

Hypothesis:

I believe that Americans, including Kansans, have become less trusting of the media in the last decade because advertising and social media make the comprehension of which media is true or false more difficult, blurring the lines between factual information and biased paid news.

  1. Preston, great outline! Your discussion of variables seems to be focused on the participants and the surveys as a whole instead of the variables those surveys will measure. Have you checked the Pew studies on media distrust? I think a quick look to find the more relevant studies and methods that organization used in the last year or two should prove very helpful for you: https://www.pewresearch.org/topic/news-habits-media/media-society/media-attitudes/trust-in-media/

While there are times it is best to develop your own measurements, it’s better to find a measurement used previously 9 times out of 10. So, if you can easily find someone else’s survey or questions from others’ interviews, that would be best. You can also rely solely on a survey or interviews, if you like. I imagine you can find the answer either way.
