Research Report – Writing a Discussion

In this presentation we will review the importance of a discussion section in a research report and explain how this section ties together different aspects of research details.

The discussion section is a summary of your research. Authors are able to conclude the body of a research report by letting their audience know the true meaning of their project. An effective discussion section starts with a restate of the project’s original purpose and ends with specific suggestions for future research. Methods and results should be explained in full and elaborating on limitations can help the audience understand what’s needed for future research. Ensure claims are supported and generalizations are appropriate to the data presented. Taking these steps will contribute greatly to a better understanding of a research project.

  1. Great presentation, Natasha! I found to be very useful when examining my own discussion section of my proposal. Showing that we truly understands the ins and outs of our proposed research within the discussion section will certainly help us persuade the readers of going forward with the research that we have proposed.
