Week 12 Blog Post — Last Two Search Types:
Document a subject search:
What database did you use? Computer Source
What source, identified with a full APA citation, led you to a subject term to use?
Nunez, D., & Blake, E. (2006). Learning, Experience, and Cognitive Factors in the Presence Experiences of Gamers: An Exploratory Relational Study. PRESENCE: Teleoperators & Virtual Environments, 15(4), 373–380. https://doi.org/10.1162/pres.15.4.373
Was the search useful? Yes
How many results did it turn up? 229 but with full text and peer reviewed selected 13 results show up
Was the search generally useful? Yes
Why were the results useful or were not useful? The results were very useful it ended up turning up 13 articles total of those 13 I think I might be able to use 4 for the research proposal. It turned up 3-4 articles on gaming experience which is what I’m looking for.
Document a citation trace:
What database did you use? Computer Source
What source, identified with a full APA citation, did you trace?
Tried this one no sources cite it from what I could tell.
Nunez, D., & Blake, E. (2006). Learning, Experience, and Cognitive Factors in the Presence Experiences of Gamers: An Exploratory Relational Study. PRESENCE: Teleoperators & Virtual Environments, 15(4), 373–380. https://doi.org/10.1162/pres.15.4.373
So then I tried this one it also didn’t have any no sources cite it as well.
Sifonis, C. M. (2019). Examining Game Transfer Phenomena in the Hybrid Reality Game, Ingress. International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction, 35(17), 1557–1568. https://doi.org/10.1080/10447318.2018.1555735
Next I tried this one it didn’t have any sources that cited it.
Mora-Cantallops, M., & Sicilia, M.-Á. (2018). Exploring player experience in ranked League of Legends. Behaviour & Information Technology, 37(12), 1224–1236. https://doi.org/10.1080/0144929X.2018.1492631
it cites 61 sources but no papers source it
So I did three searches with no forward results so I went over to google scholar and typed in the first article I search on the computer source database earning, Experience, and Cognitive Factors in the Presence Experiences of Gamers: An Exploratory Relational Study. And got completely different results. It said 35 sources cite it as apposed to the 0 that was showing up in ebscohost.
How many sources cited it? 35
How many sources did it cite? 17
Was each search useful? No
How many results did each turn-up? Some turned up nothing while others turn up a lot.
Was each search generally useful? Yes
Why were the results for each useful or were not useful? I think the results at first with out google scholar were kind of useless, but I still saw a few articles in the sources that the articles sourced that could be of use. Google scholar was very helpful in finding forward citations of those I think I can at least use a few for my research proposal.
