Researching the different ways people use data and information

So far, my research assignments have proven to be very helpful. The assignments have shown me which databases will be the most useful with my topic and I now know ways to narrow down my search to find appropriate articles with loads of information to use.

ProQuest Database – 1st Source used:

Gopisetty, S., Agarwala, S., Butler, E., Jadav, D., Jaquet, S., Korupolu, M., . . . Vogl, N. G. (2008). Evolution of storage management: Transforming raw data into information. IBM Journal of Research and Development, 52(4), 341-352. Retrieved from https://www.proquest.com/scholarly-journals/evolution-storage-management-transforming-raw/docview/220660771/se-2

The subject term I used was “information storage” which provided 4,259,262 results. Of course that is way too many for me to skim through but once I am able to narrow down the search I am destined to find more than enough articles to satisfy my research.

Citation trace:

Science direct database – citation source

Belk, M., Fidas, C., Germanakos, P., & Samaras, G. (2017). The interplay between humans, technology and user authentication: A cognitive processing perspective. Computers in Human Behavior, 76, 184-200.

I used both Science direct and Google scholar to do a citation trace on this article. Google Scholar showed there were 47 articles that cited my original. Science direct showed 35 cited articles within my original. I tried to find how many articles cited my original in Science direct, but I was unsuccessful in my search. Most of the 47 articles that cited my original were similar which didn’t really help me as I already had an article that addressed the topic of human, technology, and user authentication. I would rather use the searches from weeks 10 and 11 to complete my research.
