1. Your initial research idea and your current research idea. If there are changes, tell us how they are different and why. What led you to change your focus?
My original idea for my research is to study how COVID affected work and how to affected the movement to remote work. I think I would like to stay in the general area of covid and remote work. But I would like to focus on fully distributed teams.
2. What do you want to find out in your research area?
I would like to find out if fully distributed teams are an effective way to run a start-up or an established company. I would like to study if a company without a geographic physical presence can truly exist and complete its mission. I would like to learn how effective management can be and if it has any effects on management or front-line contributors.
3. Have you already found research related to your idea? If so, what is that research?
There is no shortage of studies in the genre of remote work. I have found quite a few relevant articles that I will link to below. There seem to be a lot of technical articles about how to manage a distributed team and how to connect them with the current technology tools. But there does seem to be a shortage of studies on its effectiveness and effects on the people involved.

- Phycoinfo has many great articles on remote work. Studies for how remote work impacts us as humans can be found here.
- Academic Search Premier has some great multi-disciplinary articles for remote work and distributed teams. This database is most likely to have studies comparable to what I’d like to do.
- CQ Research seems like it would be an excellent resource. It is focused on studies that are relevant to current events. I think that this would be helpful for the recent nature of COVID, and the fast-changing trends to remote work. Sources:

Remote work isn’t going away anytime soon, let alone covid jump-starting this movement of people to work virtually. Your topic over whether you can effectively run a company, whether a startup or a well-established one, virtually needs to be answered. Some of the largest companies are now requiring their employees to come back in person or face a reduction in pay. There seems to be some reason why they want them back in person. Is it because of the reasons you mentioned or something else?
