My initial and current research proposal idea remains the same. The topic I would like to focus on is the impact/effects of social media on society. Social media has become a cornerstone in society as it keeps us all in touch with family/friends, businesses use it for promotion and sales etc. Furthermore, social media use has risen far more in recent years and even more so since the COVID-19 pandemic hit. In my opinion, as stated in my initial post, it has brought us all closer as it connects us all but in the same breath, causes a greater divide. With that said, there is a dark side to social media.
Main question(s)
Does social media have a negative impact on society/individuals? If so, what are some of these effects and to what extent are we affected?
Secondary question
On average, how many hours do individuals stay on social media daily?
I have found one research article thus far that is related to my topic (used for week 6 article review), which is the mediated effect of social media addiction on productivity (Washington, 2021).
There are a few databases that I can use to find quality academic research such as EBSCOhost, JSTOR, or applied science and technology databases. I have depended on both EBSCOhost and JSTOR for previous research assignments over the years which have never failed me yet. The applied science and technology database will allow me to refine my search around the tech scene.
